The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has amended its testing requirements for certain types of lamps, incorporating by reference updated versions of four industry standards.
According to the Final Rule published in the July 6, 2009 issue of the Federal Register, the DOE has incorporated into 10 CFR 430 updated standards for the testing of general service fluorescent lamps, incandescent reflector lamps, and general service incandescent lamps. The updated standards include:
>ANSI C78.375-1997, American National Standard for Fluorescent Lamps—Guide for Electrical Measurement
(replaces C78.375-1991)
>ANSI/ICE C78.81-2005, American National Standard for Electrical Lamps—Double-Capped Fluorescent
Lamps—Dimensional and Electrical Characteristics (replaces C78.1-1991)
>ANSI/IEC C78.901-2005, American National Standard for Electrical Lamps—Single-Based Fluorescent
Lamps—Dimensional and Electrical Characteristics (replaces C78.2-1991)
>ANSI C82.3-2002, American National Standard for Lamp Ballasts—Reference Ballasts for Fluorescent Lamps
(replaces C82.3-1983)
The DOE’s Final Rule also incorporates into the test procedure by reference the IESNA LM-9-1999 and IESNA LM-45-2000 standards for measuring the electrical and photometric attributes of fluorescent lamps and general service incandescent filament lamps, respectively.
