July 2009 (09NB-207)
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is seeking comments regarding its plan to extend the collection of certain data from manufacturers and importers of citizen band base station antennas.
In a Notice published in the July 8, 2009 issue of the Federal Register, the CPSC seeks to extend its authority to collect information from manufacturers and importers of these devices. The information includes the result of performance testing, as detailed in 16 CFR Part 1204, Subpart B, intended to reduce the risk of death and serious injury that may result if any omnidirectional antenna contacts an overhead power line while being erected or removed from its site.
Specifically, the regulation contains performance tests to demonstrate that an antenna will not transmit harmful electric current if it contacts an electric power line with a voltage of 14,500 volts phase-to-ground.
The CPSC’s current authority to collect such information is set to expire on September 30, 2009. Comments on the proposed extension are due to the CPSC no later than September 8, 2009.
