Hutchinson Worldwide is world market leader in rubber products on each of its three markets: automotive, industry and consumer products. It is part of the Chemical Branch of the TOTAL Group.
"We're a satisfied client, yet to keep improving we need to remain permanently dissatisfied. Bureau Veritas is a solid partner in our ongoing project."
With 95 factories around the world, Hutchinson faces a permanent challenge to maintain safety standards and protect its personnel from the risks of industrial accidents. Hutchinson is committed to a policy of constant improvement in all its locations. The underlying goal is to reduce the number of accidents. This requires a strict set of guidelines imposed from head office, a disciplined approach at each site, and a reliable system of monitoring adherence to the guidelines.
Since 2000, Bureau Veritas has been performing optimized safety audits for Hutchinson factory sites, first in France, then Europewide, and worldwide since 2005. Working in close collaboration with the Hutchinson team, Bureau Veritas adapted its VeriSAFE product to help create SafeRING, a world class program more comprehensive than a regular safety audit. The program includes support to identify risk and implementing safety systems, risk analysis, compliance verification, auditing, reporting, validation of action plans, and participation at Hutchinson's annual safety meeting. Working side by side with Hutchinson's own staff, Bureau Veritas auditors have been responsible for assessing the safety standards of each industrial site, identifying potential problems and proposing actionable solutions. Hutchinson Worldwide's 95 factories all require the same level of attention to detail. No matter where in the world a factory is located, it is the mission of Bureau Veritas to pursue its auditing role with the same rigor and professionalism.
Workplace safety is measured at all Hutchinson sites using the same accident ratio system – an accident ratio is determined by calculating the number of accidents requiring cessation of work in relation to the number of man hours worked. By implementing SafeRING with Bureau Veritas, Hutchinson achieved its goal of significantly lowering its accident ratio. In fact, the company has reduced the number of workplace accidents by 50% since working with Bureau Veritas, and is now aiming for an even better result. Bureau Veritas has accepted the challenge to initiate new processes and methods to further optimize a system which has already produced exceptional results.
